Angola’s population is around 37.9 million people according to World Bank data for 2024 (with UN sources estimating slightly higher in 2025). The country has one of the fastest growth rates in Africa, driven by high fertility and a young age structure. Most Angolans live in or around cities like Luanda, which has seen explosive urban growth and big pressure on housing and services. Angola’s economy is heavily tied to oil, and demographic factors — a large youth population and rapid urbanization — are central to planning for jobs and education. Health and education systems have improved but still face big gaps, especially outside the main cities. Overall, Angola is growing fast, young, and urbanizing, which creates opportunities and big policy challenges.
