France marks 10th anniversary of Paris terror attacks with symbolic football tribute

On 13 November 2025, France-based fans and players paused for a minute’s silence at Parc des Princes as they commemorated the 10-year anniversary of the 2015 attacks that killed 130 people. Ahead of a World Cup qualifying match against Ukraine, the gesture included the display of France’s motto “Fluctuat nec mergitur” and “Football for Peace” banners. While the scheduling of the match on this sensitive date sparked unease among victims’ families, the tribute was widely viewed as a symbol of resilience and unity against extremism. Former President François Hollande and first responders were among the honoured guests. The event serves as a reminder of how sport and national remembrance can intersect in the face of tragedy.
