How did Darwin come up with the theory of evolution?

The idea started forming during his five-year journey on the HMS Beagle, especially when he visited the Galápagos Islands. He noticed animals and plants on each island had slight differences that helped them survive locally. Instead of thinking species were created perfectly, he realised they changed over time. After returning to England, he spent years thinking, researching, and comparing evidence. Only later did he realise that “natural selection” was the key. It wasn’t some instant flash of genius — it was slow detective work. He waited over twenty years before publishing his major book.
