Who was Charles Darwin and why is he so important in science?

Charles Darwin was an English naturalist born in 1809 who changed how people think about life on Earth. He came up with the theory of evolution by natural selection, which basically says species change over time because some traits help them survive better. Instead of just guessing, he backed his ideas with tons of observations and research from his travels. Scientists today still use his ideas as a foundation for biology, genetics, and ecology. Even if people argued about him at first, his work eventually became widely accepted. Schools everywhere teach his theories. He’s one of those names that keeps showing up when you talk about science and history.
