What was Charles Darwin like as a young man?

Darwin wasn’t a superstar student early on, and his teachers didn’t think he would amount to much. He was more interested in hunting, collecting beetles, and exploring nature than memorising Latin or doing traditional schoolwork. Ironically, those hobbies were exactly what helped him later. His father sent him to study medicine, but Darwin hated surgery and fainted at the sight of operations. Instead, he got hooked on natural science and geology. That shift changed his entire path. He slowly became the curious researcher we all know about today.
