What are the main monuments on the Acropolis?

The Acropolis is home to several iconic ancient monuments that reflect classical Greek architecture and artistry. The most famous is the Parthenon, a Doric temple built to honour Athena, the city’s patron goddess. Nearby is the Erechtheion, known for its Caryatid Porch featuring sculpted female figures as columns. The Temple of Athena Nike stands on a bastion to the southwest, symbolising victory and protection. The grand entrance to the Acropolis is through the Propylaea, an ornate gateway with columns and steps leading up the hill. On the south slope lies the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, a Roman period stone theatre still used today for performances. Together these structures create a remarkable ensemble of ancient architecture and history.
