Skeleton at the 2026 Winter Olympics

Skeleton at the 2026 Winter Olympics will take place at the Eugenio Monti Sliding Centre in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, one of the main sliding sport venues hosting bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton competitions. All the skeleton races are scheduled between February 12 and February 15, 2026, with athletes racing head-first down the ice track reaching speeds of around 130–140 km/h on small, flat sleds. The Olympic program includes three events: men’s individual, women’s individual, and for the first time ever a mixed team event, where one man and one woman from each country combine their times for a team score. This marks a step toward greater gender inclusivity and introduces fresh excitement to a sport known for its speed and precision. The sliding centre’s track is about 1,730 m long with 16 curves built to modern IBSF standards, and it passed official homologation tests required for Olympic competition. Athletes start with a powerful sprint before diving onto their sled, steering primarily through subtle body shifts as they tackle tight turns and icy straights. Qualification for the Games is based on World Cup results and international rankings, shaping a competitive field of top sliders from around the world. With its mix of individual excellence and a new team twist, skeleton is one of the most thrilling and visually intense sliding sports on the Winter Olympics schedule.
