Speed skating at the 2026 Winter Olympics will take place in Milano at the Milano Speed Skating Stadium, with competitions scheduled from February 7 through February 21, 2026. This sport features 14 medal events, with men and women competing in distances from the sprint 500 m up to the grueling 10,000 m race. Women’s races include the 3000 m and 5000 m, while men add the 5000 m and 10,000 m events; both genders also compete in 500 m, 1000 m, 1500 m, mass start, and team pursuit. Athletes race in pairs on a 400-metre oval track, each chasing the fastest time rather than head-to-head competition, blending endurance, technique, and pacing. The mass start and team pursuit events add strategic layers, with skaters working both individually and as part of team tactics. Training begins well ahead of the Games, with general sessions starting late January and official practice occurring before February competition days. Several top speed skaters from around the world, including medal contenders who have starred in World Cups and World Championships, are preparing to shine in Milan.
