Team Great Britain at the 2026 Winter Olympics

Team United Kingdom — competing as Team Great Britain — will head to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, with 26–27 athletes across six sports including alpine and cross‑country skiing, curling, figure skating, short‑track and long‑track speed skating. Team GB’s Chef de Mission is Eve Muirhead, a gold medal‑winning Olympic curler who leads with a focus on athlete progress, performance and well‑being as well as medals.

Curling is a key medal hope — the British men’s and women’s teams both qualified along with mixed doubles. World silver medallist Bruce Mouat’s rink returns with experience and strong results behind them. In figure skating, Team GB named its biggest squad since 1988, led by ice dance stars Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson who won world bronze in 2025 and are genuine medal contenders. The figure skating roster also includes pairs, singles and an Olympic team event squad competing at the Milano Ice Skating Arena.

On the ice, short‑track speed skating sees Niall Treacy represent the UK in the intense pack racing at Milano Cortina. Long‑track speed skating includes Ellia Smeding, who qualified for both the 1000 m and 1500 m and brings valuable experience from her previous Olympic appearance.

In skiing, veteran Dave “Rocket” Ryding — Britain’s most successful alpine racer — will make his fifth Olympic appearance, hoping for a strong slalom result in Bormio. Cross‑country spots include a small but competitive group aiming for personal bests and top‑30 results.

Outside of traditional medal sports, Team GB also fields athletes in short‑track and speed skating, with hopes to build strong performances and possibly surprise results despite the highly competitive fields. Historically, Britain won two medals at the 2022 Winter Games — both in curling — and is aiming for its best Winter Olympics yet with a broader set of medal contenders.

Other athletes to watch include Matt Weston and Marcus Wyatt in skeleton, though their skeleton rankings reflect strong World Cup finishes that could translate into Olympic podium chances. In freestyle skiing and snowboarding, names like Zoe Atkin and Kirsty Muir represent Britain’s rising talents with potential to upset established favorites.

Overall, Team GB enters Milano Cortina with a mix of seasoned Olympians and rising stars, focusing on performance growth and medal opportunities in curling, ice dance, skating and sliding sports. With smaller squads but strong depth in key events, the UK will be among the most watched underdog teams chasing Olympic success and personal records.
