One cool tradition before the Hokies run onto the field involves something called Hokie Stone. As the team prepares to enter the stadium tunnel, each player reaches up and touches a large slab of Hokie Stone before running out. Hokie Stone is the distinctive grey limestone used on many Virginia Tech campus buildings. The tradition is meant to symbolize school pride and connection to the university. After touching the stone, players sprint onto the field while the crowd is already fired up from the pregame music and chants. Bands, cheerleaders, and cadets line the entrance area to build even more excitement. It’s a small moment, but Hokies fans love it as part of the game-day ritual.
