Why is Lane Stadium famous for the “Enter Sandman” tradition?

Lane Stadium is famous for one of the wildest college football entrances in the country. Right before kickoff, Metallica’s song “Enter Sandman” blasts through the speakers as the Hokies run onto the field. When the music starts, the entire crowd jumps up and down together, creating a crazy amount of noise and energy. This tradition began in 2000 and quickly became a signature moment of every Virginia Tech home game. Fans say the stadium literally shakes when more than 65,000 people start jumping at once. The moment has even been strong enough to show up on local seismographs during big games. If you go to a game, this entrance is easily the most unforgettable part of the whole experience.
