Getting to Selawik Lake is not simple because there are no roads connecting it to major cities. Most visitors travel by small bush planes from hubs like Kotzebue or other regional airports. In the summer, boats and river travel can also be used depending on weather and water conditions. Winter access is sometimes possible by snowmobile or ice travel, but that requires local knowledge and experience. Weather in the Arctic can change quickly, which makes travel planning very important. Flights are usually weather-dependent and may be delayed due to fog or storms. Because of this, trips to the lake are usually carefully planned and guided.
