A new nuclear race is looming

The world may be in a new nuclear race. US allies fear that Trump may remove the American "nuclear umbrella". Some of them have all the technical capabilities to create a nuclear bomb.
After returning to the presidency Donald Trump undertook a radical revision of foreign policy doctrine. In particular, he effectively abandoned unilateral commitments to protect European allies. In the 1960s, the United States took Western European countries under its “nuclear umbrella” to dissuade them from acquiring their own nuclear weapons and maintain the global balance of power.
The 1968 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty recognizes five nuclear powers: the United States, Russia (as the successor to the USSR), China, Great Britain, and France. In addition, India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel (although they do not officially recognize this) possess nuclear weapons. After World War II, many countries launched their own nuclear programs, including Brazil, Egypt, Spain, Sweden, and South Africa. But they all eventually closed them due to high costs and political pressure.
Iran continues to operate an advanced military nuclear program. In addition, some countries have foreign nuclear weapons: for example, in Germany there are American missiles, and some Russian are now in Belarus.
Due to the new Trump doctrine, some countries have resumed discussions about the need to acquire their own nuclear weapons. Some of them have all the technical capabilities for this.
