“Free D.C.” march spotlights policing takeover in the capital

Protesters rallied at Dupont Circle before marching toward the White House. Demonstrators carried signs opposing the federal restructuring of D.C. law enforcement. Organizers argued the changes undermine local autonomy and democratic accountability. Police maintained street closures as crowds swelled in the afternoon heat. March leaders urged nonviolence and handed out legal-aid hotline numbers. Tourists and residents lined sidewalks to film the procession.
