Why is it called the Pentagon?

The building is called the Pentagon because of its five-sided shape. The design features five concentric rings connected by corridors and five radial roads surrounding the building. The shape was chosen to maximize space and efficiency while fitting within the site’s irregular boundaries. Its unique geometry also provides a recognizable symbol of U.S. defense. The five-sided design influences the building’s layout, security, and functionality.
