Mount Everest has an extreme alpine climate with cold temperatures, strong winds, and low oxygen levels. Summit temperatures can drop below -40°C (-40°F) in winter, and winds often exceed 100 mph (160 km/h). Snowfall and ice are present year-round, and the region is prone to avalanches. Climbers usually attempt the summit in spring or autumn, when weather conditions are relatively stable. The climate contributes to the difficulty and danger of climbing the world’s tallest peak.
