Intercity buses and minibuses (furgons) are the budget heroes—cheap, frequent, and surprisingly scenic. Renting a car gives you total freedom to hop between beaches, castles, and mountain passes at your own pace. Road quality is decent on main routes, with some rough patches off the beaten path; drive defensively and watch for goats, tractors, and sudden scenic photo stops. For coastal hops, summer ferries and boats connect spots like Sarandë and Ksamil, and international ferries run from Italy to Durrës or Vlorë. Google Maps works fine, but ask locals if a “shortcut” is really a shortcut. Factor in extra daylight time for mountain drives—the views deserve it.
