The Jordan River today is much smaller than it used to be. Over the years, a lot of its water has been used for farming and drinking supplies in Israel, Jordan, and surrounding areas. Because of that, the flow into the Dead Sea has dropped a lot, shrinking both the river and the sea. Environmental groups have been pushing to restore parts of it to keep its ecosystem alive. So while it’s still an iconic river, it’s also a river under pressure.
