Myanmar uses the Burmese kyat, written as MMK. The kyat has been the official currency since 1952. Banknotes feature national heroes, cultural symbols, and landmarks. Cash is the main method of payment, though cards are increasingly accepted in larger cities like Yangon and Naypyidaw. Coins are rarely used due to low value. The kyat’s value can fluctuate with economic changes, and U.S. dollars are sometimes accepted alongside it. The Burmese kyat reflects Myanmar’s independence and cultural heritage.
