Palau uses the United States dollar, written as USD. The U.S. dollar has been the official currency since independence in 1994. Cash is the main method of payment, and coins are sometimes issued locally for smaller amounts. Using the U.S. dollar simplifies trade and tourism for residents and visitors. ATMs and banks are mostly found in the capital, Ngerulmud, and Koror. The dollar’s stability supports Palau’s economy. It’s a practical currency for daily life across the islands.
