Tuvalu uses the Australian dollar, written as AUD. It has been the official currency since independence in 1978, and Tuvalu also issues its own coins for local use. Cash is the main method of payment, and coins are used for smaller amounts. Using the Australian dollar makes trade and tourism easier for residents and visitors. ATMs and banks are mostly found in the capital, Funafuti. The dollar’s stability supports Tuvalu’s small economy. It’s a practical currency for daily life across the islands.
