The official language of Slovakia is Slovak. It’s spoken by nearly everyone and used in schools, government, and media. Hungarian is spoken in areas with large Hungarian communities, and Romani is also spoken by some groups. English is widely taught in schools and spoken in cities and tourist areas. Slovak uses the Latin alphabet and has a clear and melodic pronunciation. Most Slovaks are bilingual or multilingual, switching between Slovak and other languages easily. The language reflects Slovakia’s rich cultural history and Central European roots.
