The official language of Slovenia is Slovene. It’s spoken by nearly everyone and used in education, government, and media. In areas near the Italian and Hungarian borders, Italian and Hungarian are also recognized as official languages. English is widely understood, especially in cities and among younger people. Slovene uses the Latin alphabet and has a melodic sound. Most Slovenians are bilingual or multilingual, often switching between Slovene, English, and neighboring languages. The language reflects Slovenia’s cultural identity and European connections.
