The official language of South Korea is Korean. It’s spoken by nearly everyone and written in the unique Hangul alphabet, which was invented in the 15th century. English is widely taught in schools and often used in business and tourism. Some older generations also understand Japanese due to historical reasons. Korean is known for its honorifics and politeness levels that show respect in conversation. The language is central to South Korean identity and culture, especially through music, dramas, and films. Most South Koreans are proud of their language’s distinctiveness and clarity.
