Djibouti has an arid, desert climate characterised by very high temperatures and limited rainfall throughout the year. Summers can be extremely hot, with daytime temperatures often exceeding 40°C in many regions. The coastal areas, especially around Djibouti City, can be humid due to proximity to the sea, while inland areas remain dry and scorching. Winters are milder, with more comfortable temperatures that make travel and outdoor activities more pleasant. Rainfall is sparse, and Djibouti is prone to drought conditions that challenge water resources and agriculture. Because of its climate, much of the landscape is barren or semi‑arid, with vegetation adapted to harsh environments. This climate underscores the importance of urban areas and service industries over agriculture.
