Djibouti is a small country in the Horn of Africa, situated on the Bab el‑Mandeb Strait where the Red Sea meets the Gulf of Aden. It shares borders with Eritrea to the north, Ethiopia to the west and south, and Somalia to the southeast, giving it strategic regional importance. The country has a varied landscape that ranges from rugged volcanic mountains to low desert plains and salt flats. One of its most striking geographic features is Lake Assal, the lowest point in Africa at about 155 m below sea level. Its coastline stretches along key maritime routes that link the Indian Ocean with the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal. Djibouti’s arid climate is marked by high temperatures and minimal rainfall, with a dry environment dominating much of the territory. These features combine to make Djibouti a unique blend of dramatic terrain and strategic location.
