Cheaha State Park is Alabama’s oldest state park and home to the highest point in Alabama, Cheaha Mountain, rising up above the Talladega National Forest with big views and rugged scenery. It’s known as a “high place” — that’s what Cheaha means in native languages — and offers hiking, camping, lake activities, and lots of outdoor fun. The park is spread over thousands of acres with granite boulders, tall trees, and scenic overlooks that feel like you’re on top of the world. Visitors come here for hiking trails, waterfalls, mountain biking, picnics, and even geocaching and stargazing under dark skies. Families also enjoy the six-acre Cheaha Lake for swimming and fishing, plus picnic spots and playgrounds. If you like nature, scenic drives, and fresh air, it’s one of the most popular outdoor destinations in the Southeast.
