Is Mosul safe to visit and what should travellers know?

Visiting Mosul isn’t like going to most touristy cities right now, but it’s slowly opening up as things get more stable. There’s still active rebuilding, and outsiders usually come with specific purposes like research, work, or cultural heritage visits. Security and safety guidelines are something to take super seriously, and you should check travel advisories before planning a trip. The city’s infrastructure and services are improving, but not everyone would call it a standard holiday destination yet. If you do go, basic Arabic helps a lot because English isn’t widely spoken, especially outside formal settings. Travellers also often combine a visit with guided heritage tours to learn more about the city’s long history. Expect lots of checkpoints and remember that some areas may still have dangers like unexploded ordnance.
