The main language in Mosul is Arabic with a distinct Mosuli dialect, and there’s also a significant Kurdish-speaking community. Other languages and traditions show up too because the city has historically been home to lots of different groups. Christians, Arabs, Kurds and others all shaped the city’s culture before recent conflict changed the mix a lot. You’ll see this diversity in local food, music and street life when you explore. Because of the recent history of war, some groups are still rebuilding their communities, and traditions blend old Mesopotamian heritage with modern Iraqi life.
