One of the most famous features of Faurot Field is the giant “Rock M” located on a grassy hill behind the north end zone. The large letter M is made from white limestone rocks and is one of the most recognizable symbols of Missouri athletics. It was created in 1927 by freshmen students using leftover stones from the stadium’s original construction. Each year incoming students repaint the rocks to keep the tradition alive. On game days, fans often sit on the grassy hill around the Rock M to watch the action. The landmark is visible throughout the stadium and appears in many broadcast shots during games. For Missouri fans, the Rock M represents school pride and decades of football history.
