Why is it called Faurot Field?

The name Faurot Field honors Don Faurot, one of the most important figures in Missouri football history. He served as head coach of the Missouri Tigers from 1935 to 1956 and later worked as the school’s athletic director. Faurot helped shape the program’s identity and was also known for developing the Split-T offensive formation. In recognition of his impact, the playing surface at Memorial Stadium was officially named after him in 1972. Even though the stadium itself is still Memorial Stadium, fans commonly refer to the entire venue as Faurot Field. His legacy is closely tied to the growth of Missouri football and the stadium itself. Today his name remains a big part of the program’s tradition and identity.
