Why is Lascaux Cave so famous?

Lascaux Cave is famous because it contains some of the most impressive prehistoric cave paintings ever discovered. The artwork includes animals like bulls, horses, deer, and aurochs painted around 17,000 years ago. The level of detail and movement in the images surprised archaeologists when it was first discovered in 1940. Many experts call it the “Sistine Chapel of prehistory” because of its artistic quality and scale. The cave includes hundreds of paintings and engravings covering large sections of the walls and ceilings. It also gives insight into early human creativity, beliefs, and storytelling. Today it is considered one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the world.
