No, the original Lascaux Cave is closed to the public. It was first opened after its discovery but had to be shut down in 1963 because visitors damaged the delicate environment. Problems like humidity changes, algae growth, and bacteria started affecting the ancient paintings. To protect the artwork, scientists decided to fully restrict access to the original site. Today only researchers and conservation experts are allowed inside under strict conditions. Visitors instead experience highly accurate replicas built nearby. These replicas are designed to look and feel as close as possible to the original cave experience.
