In Tbilisi and tourist hotspots you’ll find plenty of English speakers, especially among younger folks and in hospitality businesses, but rural areas are more Georgian- or Russian-speaking. Learning a few Georgian phrases or even hello/thank you in Georgian goes a long way — locals appreciate the effort and it opens doors. Georgians pride themselves on hospitality, so being invited to a home or table is common if you’re friendly and curious. Don’t be surprised by enthusiastic offers to help or multiple people piping in with advice — it’s part of the warmth. Carry cash for small towns and tip modestly in restaurants; tipping culture is appreciated but not as rigid as in some Western countries. Overall: communication is easy enough in cities, and kindness is usually reciprocated with genuine hospitality.
