The official languages of Sri Lanka are Sinhala and Tamil. Sinhala is spoken by the majority, while Tamil is mainly used by the Tamil community in the north and east. English is also widely used in business, government, and education. Many Sri Lankans are bilingual or trilingual, easily switching between Sinhala, Tamil, and English. The country’s language policy promotes harmony between communities. Sinhala and Tamil both have their own beautiful scripts and long literary traditions. The linguistic mix reflects Sri Lanka’s cultural and ethnic diversity.
