The official language of Sweden is Swedish. It’s spoken by nearly everyone and used in all areas of life—government, education, and media. Swedish is a North Germanic language, closely related to Norwegian and Danish, and uses the Latin alphabet. English is widely spoken and understood, especially among younger generations. Finnish, Meänkieli, and Sámi are also recognized minority languages. Most Swedes are bilingual or at least fluent in English. The Swedish language reflects the nation’s culture of openness, simplicity, and equality.
