Jefferson is best known for the Louisiana Purchase, which doubled the size of the United States. He sent Lewis and Clark to explore the new territory afterward. He also cut government spending and tried to keep the federal government small. Jefferson pushed for more westward expansion and encouraged new settlements. He worked to keep America out of European wars, even though that wasn’t always easy. His presidency focused on growth, exploration, and independence. Many of his decisions changed the country permanently.
