Why is the Mekong River so important?

The Mekong is basically the lifeline for millions of people. It provides water for farming, fish for food, and routes for trade and transport. Many rural communities rely directly on it for survival. It’s also key for rice production in Southeast Asia, especially in the Mekong Delta. Without it, the economy and daily life of the region would look very different.
