How did Lyndon B. Johnson start his political career?

Johnson began his career as a congressional aide and then won a seat in the House of Representatives at a pretty young age. He moved up fast because he worked incredibly long hours and understood political deal-making better than most. Later, he became a U.S. senator and eventually Senate Majority Leader, where he gained a reputation as a master negotiator. LBJ knew how to get laws passed even when Congress was difficult. His ability to persuade people became known as “the Johnson Treatment.” Those skills made him a natural choice for Kennedy’s running mate in 1960. His rise was one of the fastest in 20th-century politics.
