The Great Sphinx of Giza is situated on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile near Cairo, Egypt. It sits in front of the Pyramid of Khafre among the monuments of the Giza Necropolis. The statue faces east toward the rising sun, which may have had symbolic meaning in ancient times. Its location places it directly within one of the most famous archaeological landscapes in the world. The Giza Plateau also hosts the Great Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Menkaure, forming a striking complex of ancient structures. Visitors typically combine a Sphinx visit with tours of these iconic pyramids and nearby tombs. Its position about 15 km from central Cairo makes it accessible for large numbers of tourists each year.
