Who built the Great Sphinx of Giza?

Most scholars attribute the construction of the Great Sphinx to Pharaoh Khafre of the Fourth Dynasty. The Sphinx is thought to represent the pharaoh himself, linking the statue closely to his reign. It was carved directly from the limestone bedrock of the plateau using ancient tools and techniques. The proximity of the Sphinx to Khafre’s pyramid and valley temple supports this attribution.
