The wreck of the Titanic is not a single piece resting on the seabed. When the ship sank, it broke apart before reaching the ocean floor. As a result, the bow and stern sections lie separated by about 600 meters with a large debris field scattered between them. The bow section is still fairly recognizable and even shows parts of the ship’s interior structures. The stern, however, is heavily damaged and twisted from the violent sinking and impact with the seabed. Around the wreck, thousands of artifacts such as dishes, luggage, and ship equipment are spread across the ocean floor. This debris field covers an area of several square miles.
